Zealots Field Glossary

As a fantasy-football site, Zealots Field uses most of the common fantasy football lingo, but we also have some terms and phrases that are unique to us. Below is a nowhere-near-complete glossary that provides definitions for some of these words and phrases.

  • Baugh Syndicate - A group of twelve of our classic leagues. Baugh is named after the early pro football hero "Slingin" Sammy Baugh (’37-’52 Redskins), and consists of Z-25 through Z-36.

  • Blood Syndicate - Twelve of our classic leagues grouped together. Blood is named after the early pro football hero Johhny “Blood” McNally (’29-33, ’35-36 Packers), and consists of Z-37 through Z-48.

  • Classic League - One of the core 48 leagues patterned after the first Zealots Field league founded in 2003. All play by the same rules and share common syndicates (Grange, Nagurski, Baugh, and Blood).

  • Code of Conduct - Our list of six key and expected guidelines for membership in Zealots Field – agreement is required before joining.

  • Commissioner - The leader of a specific league. Often volunteers who have stepped up to help administer the league and keep it running smoothly.

  • Czar - The leader of a syndicate, or of a specific appointed administrative role. Czars are volunteer leaders appointed by Oscar Knight and the leadership team.

  • Empire - The entire Zealots experience – all of the MFL sites, the Zealots Field House, our main Website, and every member of our leagues.

  • Field house - Our message-board website. The home for all our discussion, debate, and interaction.

  • Grange Syndicate - Twelve of our classic leagues grouped together. Grange is named after the early pro football hero Harold “Red” Grange (’25, ’29-‘34 Bears), and consists of Z-1 through Z-12.

  • Halas Syndicate - One of our “specialty syndicates”, Halas is named after the Pro Football coaching and owner hero George Halas (’22-’83 Bears). This syndicate consists of five unique-rule “Maximus” dynasty leagues, Maximus I through Maximus V.

  • Hinkle Syndicate - One of our “specialty syndicates”, Hinkle is named after the early Pro Football hero Clarke Hinkle (’32-’41 Packers). This syndicate consists of two unique-rule “Schizo” dynasty leagues, Schizo- 1 and -2.

  • Hutson Syndicate - Our next syndicate of twelve classic leagues grouped together, and slated for expansion in 2007. Hutson is named after the early pro football hero Don Hutson (’35-’45 Packers), and will consist of Z-49 though Z-60.

  • Lombardi Syndicate - One of our “specialty syndicates”, Lombardi is named after the pro football coaching hero Vince Lombardi (’59-’67 Packers, ’69 Redskins). Lombardi syndicate consists of five auction and contract leagues, ZFAC-I through ZFAC-V.

  • Lord Zealot - Oscar Knight, our founder. Initially our only leader, but has now shared administrative responsibility among Vice-Lords and Czars as Zealots has continued to grow.

  • Nagurski Syndicate - Twelve of our classic leagues grouped together. Nagurski is named after the early pro football hero Bronko Nagurski (’30-’37, ’43 Bears), and consists of Z-13 through Z-24.

  • Realm - An individual Zealots league and the message-board forum dedicated for its use.

  • Rules Meeting - Our annual meeting held in February, where proposed amendments for modifications to the standard rules used in the classic leagues are debated and voted on.

  • Specialty League - One of several unique-rule leagues. Specialty leagues give Zealots members opportunities to join extra leagues where there are unique twists to the traditional “classic” league rules, such as auction-contract leagues, college leagues, and others.

  • Syndicate - A group of similar leagues, grouped together for administration. Consist of twelve leagues in the classic syndicates, but often less in the others.

  • Tech Crew - Volunteers who help with the technical side of administration, assisting with site design, maintenance, and technical issues related to Zealots and the internet sites we use.

  • Thorpe Syndicate - One of our “specialty syndicates”, Thorpe is named after the early pro football hero Jim Thorpe (’15-’17, ’19-’20, ’26 Canton Bulldogs, and others). Thorpe syndicate consists of three collegiate dynasty “Knightmare” leagues, KFAC-1 through KFAC-3.

  • Vice Commissioner - Assistant leader of a specific league – usually two per league. Frequently volunteers appointed by the commissioner to help with the administration of a league.

  • Vice Lord - A senior volunteer leader, appointed by Oscar Knight as general overseers of the Zealots Empire.

  • Z-league - An individual Zealots fantasy league, often numbered, such as “Z-1” in the classic leagues, “ZFAC-1” in the auction-contract leagues, “KFAC-1” in the college leagues, etc.

  • Zealot(s) - A member of the Zealots fantasy football leagues, or the fantasy leagues themselves, created in 2003 by Oscar Knight.
