Overview of the Code of Conduct of Zealots Field

Great rules alone will not make a great fantasy football experience.  In any random collection of online owners, the blend of diverse egos, involvement, and personalities will determine how well the league stays together. Some leagues may thrive, but many more flounder, fade away, or flame out in an ugly fury of bitter words. When Oscar Knight first put Zealots Field together in 2003, he was determined to give it every opportunity for long term success. In asking himself what makes a successful (and fun) league, Oscar came up with six key components, and he decided to explicitly spell this list out. He then required that every prospective member of Zealots Field read, understand, and agree to them. These six key components are known as Zealots Field Code of Conduct.

Our Code of Conduct is not some tight-fisted doctrine that tries to stifle individuality or restrict any true fantasy football fan’s ability to have fun in Zealots Field. It is instead a common sense list of the things that work together to make a successful league where every owner knows what is expected of him:

  • Participation

  • Preparedness

  • Communication

  • Competitiveness

  • Sportsmanship

  • Decency

Nothing too Earth-shattering, huh? Actually in most people’s minds it’s a pretty logical list of what makes a vibrant, fun, and active league.

Occasionally we may get a new member who just gives this document a passing glance and then seems surprised to find that we treat this as much more than a mere formality for membership. We actually believe in it and try very hard to follow it. We also enforce it in the rare occasions when it is needed. Nothing personal – other people may have different opinions of what makes a fun league, and we wish them well, but Zealots Field probably is not for them.

Are we perfect? Heck no. Do we think we are some how better than others because of this code? Nope – it is just guidelines that we believe in and choose to play by. Do we probably miss some things in our enforcement? Well, probably. But we try to the best of our ability to be fair, open, and totally above-board in all we do, and we give every member of Zealots Field the benefit of the doubt until it becomes obvious that gentle reminders of compliance are ignored. In the end, the fact that we always strive to encourage, abide by, and enforce this Code of Conduct should never be in doubt.

We invite you to review our Code of Conduct:
